So far, 2017 has been pretty exciting. We just arrived home from an amazing vacation sailing the British Virgin Islands and during our time away, my dad was at our house tearing out the kitchen to kick start our year of home updating. Yay!
Our home is a quaint three-bedroom built in the 1950’s and has needed some TLC for quite a while. After debating for years – no joke – about whether to move or do some remodeling, we finally decided finding solutions for our small space rather than buying a house too big to handle better fit our lifestyle. No kids (yet), lots of travel, and less stress on cleaning bathrooms.
And once our decision was made, I could not have been more excited. We love our house and we can’t wait to give it some love and a new kitchen. Until I can reveal our before and after pictures, I gathered my inspiration gallery to share with you. Since this isn’t our “forever home”, we want to keep it classic and simple and were immediately drawn to dark, shaker style cabinets with marble counter tops and earthy accents.
The cabinets are ordered, the walls are blank and we need paint. But, we’re well on our way from a mismatched hazard to a beautifully polished space.
Have you ever done a remodel? Leave any of your tips and tricks in the comments below!

I love the idea of the dark cabinets with marble, thats a gorgeous look and totally something I would go with as well. Unfortunately I’d be no help in regards to remodeling, I’m still living that apartment life lol but best of luck to you!!! Can’t wait to hear and see the process/final product!

Hi Agnes. Your blog popped up at the base of mine as we are in the midst, well actually almost done with our kitchen remodel. It has been quite an adventure but oh so worth it. We contemplated for many years as we live in my husband old family home on a farm surrounded by the city of Charlotte, NC. The change is wonderful. Please check out my blog for inspiration and an eye opener on what remodeling can look like in the middle of the process. I’ve posted part one and part two. Part three should be before and afters of the completed space. We’re almost there. Oh, and regarding tips? Plastic sheeting and closing off doors to contain dust is a must. W learned that too late when we left out some items on counters. It’s easier to move than to clean.

Hi Lisa! So glad you stopped by and thanks so much for the advice! We’re lucky to have my dad involved who is a seasoned veteran at this stuff so he did hang a plastic sheet – thank goodness, because stuff still got crazy dusty! It really is crazy. I’m definitely stopping by your blog to check out your project. My favorite part so far has been making it how we want without having the stress of building the entire house from ground up! Maybe someday 🙂

Look forward to seeing it.

We’ve never remodeled, but we’re working on redoing our little kitchen in our 1972 rambler right now! We’re doing all the work ourselves (which is exhausting), I hope your kitchen turns out perfect!!

Oh yikes, that does sound exhausting! We’re fortunate enough to have handy family members who have been helping us do a lot. Looking forward to reading about your project!
