carry on.

Vacation time, yay!

We’re headed to Marco Island, FL this weekend and I couldn’t be more excited.  A little beach and sunshine before summer reaches the Midwest.  Here’s the challenge: only taking a carry on bag.  Are we crazy?!

Well, no, my husband isn’t.  His bag will be simple – t-shirts, shorts, board shorts.  Men have it easy.  I, on the other hand, over pack.  Every. single. time.

But I promised myself I’d make a carry on work for the 5 night getaway.  Beach vacations require very little and packing basic pieces can make wardrobe planning much easier.  I knew sticking with dresses or rompers would be the best idea, but throwing in a few easy tanks and bottoms is necessary.

Tip: if you’re sticking to a certain number of outfits but are used to bringing along options, try them on, jewelry and all, to make sure everything works.  No going back once you’re there!

Even though we’re headed to tropical climates, it’s good to have a pair of jeans just in case the nights get cool.  Pair it with a floral tank and it’s the perfect dinner outfit.

Rompers are my new best friend.  They take up the space of a dress, but provide a comfortable, shorts-and-shirt-in-one combo.  This one is a local boutique find, but check out this patterned one from Chicwish.  Adorable!

Remember this dress from my Stitch Fix?  It definitely made the cut!

This floral choice went to Cabo for our honeymoon, but it will work great in Florida too!  Here is a great ruffled choice from Nordstrom.

Last but not least, I would never leave home without this plain white tank.  It is easily worn with a pair of relaxed shorts, or printed joggers.  Depending on the weather, of course.  This combo could also make two outfits – bonus!  All of these items were pulled from my closet, but here are some great alternatives:  plain white tank from Nordstrom, tie waist shorts from Old Navy, printed joggers from Forever21.

And there is still room for swim suits, cover ups, and flip flops!  Mission accomplished.

What are your tips for a winning carry on wardrobe?
