If any of you are morning show junkies like me, I’m sure it’s not news to you who was on the Today show this morning.  For those of you who aren’t, Ben Rector was featured on the show as Elvis Duran’s Artist of Month.

All I have to say is… about time.

The first time I heard Ben Rector, I was at his concert in 2011 on my college campus.  I had tagged along with a friend to see Steve Moakler, the opener, but thankfully discovered Ben’s music that night as well.  Ever since seeing them both live, their separate collection of songs have quickly piled up in my iTunes.

I have seen him live twice now and will never miss another local show (come back to Des Moines, Ben!).

Rector’s album Brand New was released back in August and not unlike his others, it is quite amazing.  He sang “Brand New” from the album on Today but I find it more fitting to put one of his older songs, a personal favorite, as the soundtrack of the week –

“The Beat” from Into the Morning.

His lyrics, that piano, that voice….

Want more?  Find him on iTunes.  Also, you can’t miss his cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” – see it here.

Thank you for your beautiful music, Ben.  Can’t wait for the next one.

xoxo.  a
