The countdown is on!
Two weeks from today, we’ll be ringing in the new year and toasting to all the adventures that lie ahead in 2016.
For such an exciting night, the outfit has to be on point.
I always begin outfit planning with a mood board. Whether I simply look thru “new arrivals” at my go-to retailers, or I go all out and create a board (shown below!) the planning helps me organize my overall look. I’m also notorious for waiting until the last minute to go shopping – so having specific things in mind is key.
I came up with two ideas – one for a more classic NYE look and another if I want to try something a little more flashy. Take a peek!
First Look | Tradition with a twist
During the holidays, I’m always drawn to gold, black and everything sparkly. So, naturally, this is where I started. However, I really wanted to find a statement piece to disrupt the tradition – and look at that faux fur. Faux fur is a staple in my closet and compliments almost any of my outfits in the winter. This burgundy find is a nice contrast to the elegant dress, and the polka-dots are an added touch. Finish with black strappy heels, a mauve lip and of course, champagne.

Second Look | Let’s stand out
I will start by saying this was vague idea in the back of my mind.
Now I am in love.
The texture in the outfit is striking and the mixture of sequin colors is right up my alley. Again, match it up with a fur – because you can – but stick with a neutral to keep the focus on that dress. I started looking for a neutral shoe, but stumbled upon this lovely velvet pair. It will bring out the rich purple in the dress and with a minimal silhouette, they won’t be too overbearing. How about those earrings?! Again, I thought some simple silver studs would do the trick, but c’mon. It’s NYE and I have nowhere else to wear them – and they need to be mine.
Now for the shopping. We all know a fur will make the cut, but which one?! Decision time.
